Drag is a joyfully queer & trans art form that is a testament to the creativity and resilience of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. It is an art form that is constantly evolving and pushing boundaries, and will continue to be an important part of queer & trans culture for years to come.”

In a world where self-expression is paramount, where authenticity reigns supreme, Rainbow Resource Centre is thrilled to unveil its groundbreaking Drag Artists in Residence Program. This exciting initiative is designed to empower Drag Artists, it was developed in consultation with Drag Artists, and the recipient of the residency will ultimately be selected by Drag Artists.

Fostering Creative Expression

At its core, Drag is an art form that transcends boundaries, challenges norms, and celebrates individuality. It empowers performers to create personas that reflect their innermost thoughts and feelings, often breaking free from societal expectations and gender norms. Through this program, we aim to foster creative expression in all its splendid forms.

The Drag artist selected for the residency will have the opportunity to delve deeper into their artistic journey, refine their craft, and engage with community. The artist will not only entertain but also educate, sharing the stories of their unique experiences and the vital role that Drag plays in their lives.

“Rainbow Resource Centre’s Drag Artist in Residence program is not only a great opportunity for local Drag Artists to grow, showcase their talent and explore their creativity; it’s also a great platform to showcase local Drag and celebrate the art we create!”
Anita Stallion, Drag Queen & Selection Committee Member

Building a Supportive Community

One of the central pillars of the Drag Artists in Residence program is building a supportive community that celebrates diversity, promotes inclusion, and embraces self-expression. Rainbow Resource Centre recognizes that self-discovery and the pursuit of one's authentic self can be a challenging journey. With this program, we aim to provide a safe space for individuals to explore and express their identity without judgment.

The artists-in-residence will work closely with our dedicated team to create art, and to curate performances and events that engage with our community. These interactions will foster dialogue, promote understanding, and encourage people to embrace their own unique identities.

Empowering 2SLGBTQ+ Voices

Drag has a rich history of amplifying 2SLGBTQ+ voices and advocating for equality. Through the Drag Artists in Residence Program, we intend to continue this tradition by providing a platform for queer & trans artists to share their stories and inspire change. The artist will not only entertain and create new art, but also serve as role models, showing the world that it's not just okay to be different but something to be celebrated.
