I have been working at Rainbow Resource Centre since August 2023, and previously volunteered with the youth program for a term which included helping with the Youth Pride Dance. Prior to working for Rainbow I worked at the Manitoba Harm Reduction Network in Winnipeg, and I bring my experience working in harm reduction to the front desk and my interactions with the folks who enter our space looking for resources. Using the frame of harm reduction as the basis of every interaction has allowed for Rainbow to build relations with the folks in our community who see the space as a place to access information, supplies, and a brief respite from the weather. I am a historian by training, with a special interest in the development of queer archives and their relationships to the movements they come out of. Outside of work, I am a year-round cyclist, yes, including these winter months, and naturalist who can spend hours talking about tall grass prairies.

What has made working at Rainbow fulfilling is the development of relationships with folks who move through our space both as members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and those who are accessing harm reduction and other material supports that we have to offer. Directly supporting folks within a space that is explicitly queer has been something that has built connection and allowed for solidarities to be constructed and strengthened.

Hi! My name is Gian Fernandez (they/them). Prior to working in Rainbow Resource Centre as a part-time Information and Intake Coordinator, I was one of the Centre’s Rainbow Representatives. I started in January 2021 at the old location in 170 Scott Street, where I first met our wonderful staff, facilitators, and volunteers.

Prior to getting involved at Rainbow Resource Centre, I served as a student representative for the Department of History and as a Grader/Marker for various 1000- and 2000-level courses. I am currently in my last year of my studies pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Politics. On my free time, I love to read books and manga, watch anime, and binge on some shows that I pirated.

Henry Montgomery (he/him)

My name is Henry Montgomery (He/Him). I started working at Rainbow Resource Centre as an Information and Intake Coordinator in November 2023. Prior to that I volunteered between 2019 and 2023 in a variety of roles including helping with Youth Group and library, as a group facilitator for the Winnipeg Trans Support Group, and as a Rainbow Rep. Working at Rainbow means getting to be a visible and proud resource for our community, providing others with a place of belonging, safety, and empowerment.

Previously I've worked as a representative at the HIV/AIDS Resource Centre in my hometown. I'm not currently in school but I would potentially like to return to post-secondary school in the future. I have a very vocal and cuddly 10-year-old tuxedo cat named D'Jargo, and I enjoy writing queer fiction, playing video games, and running.
