As the Director of Development at Rainbow Resource Centre, I am honoured to reflect on the past year—a monumental milestone for our organization, marking 50 years of service to the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

In a year marred by misinformation and hate targeted at the 2SLGBTQ+ community, one undeniable truth emerged—our community shows up for each other. Despite the adversity, Rainbow Resource Centre experienced an outpouring of support from individuals who stood in solidarity, demonstrating the unwavering strength that comes from unity.

Our generous donors proved to be at the core of our resilience. When called upon, they stepped up, providing crucial financial support that allowed Rainbow Resource Centre to respond to hate in turbulent times. Our allies in the corporate world also played a pivotal role, increasing their support and standing with us in the face of adversity. The challenges we faced only strengthened our resolve to continue providing vital resources and support. The $900,000 raised during our 50th-anniversary gala will have a lasting impact on our ability to create safer spaces, foster unity, and advocate for queer & trans rights.

As we look back on this monumental year, we are filled with gratitude for the resilience and support demonstrated by this community and our allies.

One notable moment for me was Saturday Night Pride, which was nothing short of remarkable. This year’s Pride season felt different… In a time marked by increasing hate and harmful rhetoric towards 2SLGBTQ communities, I believe this event served as a celebration of love, diversity, and joy. Saturday Night Pride highlighted the brilliance of queer and trans artists, while providing a safe and celebratory space for our community to come together and embrace our true selves. It was a resounding success, selling-out with over 1,100 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and allies in attendance, creating a vibrant atmosphere of community and inclusivity. The choice of hosting the celebration at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights carried significant symbolism, emphasizing the importance of taking up space, being visible, and creating spaces for queer and trans joy to flourish.

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our donors, who are at the heart of Rainbow. Your generosity has been both steadfast and remarkable. I am profoundly grateful for your unwavering support because together, we will continue to create and nurture inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ communities to flourish. Your commitment to our mission fuels our determination to build a world that embraces and celebrates diversity, where everyone can live authentically and without fear.

Thank you for standing with us on this transformative journey!
