Title: Youth Program Volunteer Cook

Purpose: To assist with Rainbow Resource Centre's Youth Program by cooking family-dinner style meals for our drop-in space that offers two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and allied (2SLGBTQ+) youth ages 10-21 a safe, fun place to learn new skills, create projects and celebrate their identities.

Duties & Responsibilities: Plan weekly nutrient-dense dinner meal for 10-15 youth (quantity of youth to increase as COVID-19 restrictions change); Prepare a ingredient shopping list for programming staff to purchase; Prepare and cook meals; Clean-up meal preparation space.

Time Requirement: We have 4 weekly shifts for food preparation and cooking (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). We are seeking volunteers who are available at least 1 shift a week to prepare and cook food (approximately 2.5 hours per shift).

Skills and Qualifications: Food Handlers certification will be provided to all successful applicants who are not yet certified. Excellent time management; Understanding of how to make larger batches of nutrient-dense meals; Ability to work within a budget; Awareness of modifying meals for dietary restrictions (e.g. lactose-free, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, allergy substitutions); Ability to maintain and clean and organized food preparation space.

Criminal Record & Child Abuse Registry checks are required, and this expense will be covered for successful applicants by Rainbow Resource Centre.

*At this time, all in-person program participants, volunteers, and staff must show proof of double vaccination. If you require further accommodation, please let us know.

Start & End Date: February 2022 (6-month volunteer commitment with opportunity to renew)

Location and Accessibility: Rainbow Resource Centre (170 Scott St. R3L 0L3). The front door has a ramp and powered door. Programming will be on the main floor (no stairs). Fluorescent lighting is used in our kitchen spaces.

Training: Rainbow Resource Centre Volunteer Orientation (6 hours)-Date of this training to be determined
