Volunteer Opportunity: Social Group Facilitator (Rainbow Alliance for Men)
At Rainbow Resource Centre, we support the 2SLGBTQ+ and allied community to build strong networks of social support in Centre groups. Group meetings are drop-in based and are run by volunteers or staff. We are currently hiring volunteer social group facilitators for Rainbow Alliance for Men - a space for all 2SLGBTQIA+ male identifying and/or presenting individuals who are 18+ to come together in a safe, comfortable and inclusive environment.

- To gain skills and work experience in group facilitation and activity management for which a professional reference may be provided
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Alongside a co-facilitator, plan and implement social programming and activities for your designated social group. This includes the set-up and take-down of activities to maintain a clean shared meeting space.
- Establish and maintain safer spaces for all participants by adhering the Centre’s Code of Conduct and maintaining confidentiality.
- Lead by example and create meaningful connections with participants by engaging them in programming and encouraging their participation.
- Submit monthly statistics in a stats tracker. This is used for annual reporting by the Volunteer Coordinator.
- With support of the Volunteer Coordinator, schedule and promote meetings, manage group communications, keep track of group expenses and donations.
- Attend Centre events as a representative of the group as needed (e.g. tabling at the Community Booth at Pride).
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be aged 18+
- Experience working with the 2SLGBTQ+ community is an asset
- Has a basic understanding of heterosexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and other oppressions and how these impact individuals, families, institutions and communities.
- Is familiar with current issues faced by Winnipeg’s broader 2SLGBTQ+ community.
- Experience planning and facilitating programming for groups of around 10-25 people
- Demonstrated ability in effective conflict management and strong communication skills
- Must be able to be on time for activities and programming.
- Able to work in a team setting
- Being bilingual or multilingual is an asset
Location and Accessibility: Programming primarily occurs on-site at Rainbow Resource Centre at 545 Broadway. Sometimes programming may also be offered online, and there are opportunities for off-site programming if facilitators are interested. The meeting room at Rainbow Resource Centre has fluorescent lighting and is located on the second floor of the building. There is a small lift (2-person capacity) or stairs that can be used to get to the 2nd floor. Washrooms onsite are gender inclusive.
Time Requirement: This is a one-year term volunteer position with the opportunity to renew. Successful applicants will be required to attend the Social Group Facilitator Training (2-3 hours, date to be determined). Volunteer group facilitators typically volunteer 5-15 hours per month, depending on frequency of group meetings.
