Rainbow’s Pride Lunch & Learn Sessions

This Pride Season, Rainbow invites you to take part in a month of learning designed to equip you with the basics as you start your journey of 2SLGBTQ+ awareness, inclusion, and affirmation, and help you to get a better understanding of the history of Pride, and the fight for equal rights here in Manitoba.

History of Stonewall (June 1 or June 28)

The Stonewall Uprising was the catalyst to modern day Pride movements. But what actually happened, and how does the legacy of Stonewall live on today? This session will give you a better understanding of the events and key individuals of the Stonewall Uprising, and how the need for resistance continues.

Queer History in Manitoba (June 12 or June 29)

Manitoba's history is filled with 2SLGBTQ+ events and individuals, but how much were you taught? This Pride Lunch & Learn session will explore the history of the queer community in Manitoba from pre-contact to present day.

2SLGBTQ+ Identities – Part 1 (June 6 or June 7)

Part 1 of 2SLGBTQ+ Identities 101 will cover the topics of Sex Assigned at Birth and Gender Identity. This will include intersex identities and diverse genders (e.g. transgender, non-binary, agender, genderfluid, etc.).

2SLGBTQ+ Identities – Part 2 (June 13 or June 14)

Part 2 of 2SLGBTQ+ Identities 101 will cover the topic Gender Expression including pronouns and gender-inclusive language.

2SLGBTQ+ Identities – Part 3 (June 20 or June 21)

Part 3 of 2SLGBTQ+ Identities 101 will cover the topics of Attraction and Culture. This will include various attraction identities (e.g. gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, etc.) and cultural identities (e.g. Two-Spirit).

Bre Calma
Training and Education Coordinator

Bre Calma (they/them) is a non-binary Queer who lives and works in the territories of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Dakota, Dene, Métis, and Oji-Cree Nations.

Bre joined the Rainbow Resource Centre in 2021 as the Training and Education Coordinator. They are passionate about the impact education can have on people of all ages.

Bre holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education (University of Winnipeg) and a Graduate Certificate in Sexual Health Education (University of Alberta).
