Elizabeth mcmechan

Elizabeth McMechan (she/they) is the current Older Adult Program Coordinator at Rainbow Resource Centre, whose work is to plan and create programming for 2SLGBTQ+ Adults ages 55+, as well as working cooperatively for intergenerational programming.

Raised in rural Manitoba on a cattle and grain farm, Elizabeth moved to Winnipeg in 2015 to acquire a post-secondary education at the University of Manitoba.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Women's and Gender Studies, Elizabeth has dedicated her time and energy into becoming immersed with Winnipeg’s West End and Central neighbourhood, developing connections within the queer community, and becoming an advocate for harm reduction and anti-colonial/anti-racist efforts in Winnipeg and greater Manitoba. Elizabeth has been trained in overdose response and naloxone administration (as well as being trained to educate others), gender-based violence case management, suicide prevention and response, gender-based analysis, and conflict resolution in workplaces.

Outside of work, Elizabeth enjoys gardening, yoga, swimming, crocheting, and spending time with her dachshund Pancake and her cat Little Boots.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to honour the revolutionary efforts of those who came before me, and fought for my peaceful aging and future as a queer person. I am honoured to engage with older adults through Rainbow Resource Centre and commit to fostering love and support in my community."
